Solution
Gives BMW's European Rover Dealers Access to Legacy Systems Via a
Corporate Extranet

Rover,
a subsidiary of auto manufacturer BMW Group, will use MODCOMP's ViewMax®
Web-to-host solution to convert its European dealer systems for use
over their corporate extranet.
BMW Group will use the solution to Web-enable the Rover NSC (National
Sales Company) HP3000-based dealer systems. These systems incorporate
such business applications as vehicle ordering, warranty claims, stock
locator, sales file, invoicing, and local market updates. The solution
will present Rover dealers in Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, and
the Netherlands with real-time access to data via a Virtual Private
Network (VPN - Extranet). The solution will integrate nearly 1,200
screens into seven different languages. This marks the beginning of
BMW's convergence of Rover's systems into a single BMW Group extranet
for its regional offices and dealers worldwide.

"The
ViewMax solution will give Rover dealers continued access to existing
business applications as BMW Group installs modern Web technology
based systems," said Rob Crigler, Vice President of Internet Marketing
for MODCOMP's E-Commerce Division. "We are pleased to offer BMW Group
such a seamless E-business solution."
The
initial requirement for a rapid E-business implementation was driven
by Millennium issues with the existing X-25/Videotext services. The
MODCOMP solution was implemented with no changes to backend applications
or systems. This allowed the dealers to move to the new Web-based
technology without any retraining whatsoever.
"With
MODCOMP and its unique ViewMax Web application tool, the BMW Group
IT department has delivered an E-business solution in the time it
normally takes to write the specification," said Jack Richter, Project
Manager and Senior Technical Architect for Rover. "MODCOMP's integration
and development staff helped us roll out this project very quickly
so that we could meet the business' needs for January 2000. MODCOMP
delivered the full system a month early and our users are extremely
happy."
"It
was critical that the vendor chosen understood the automotive industry,
had a European support team, and had proven experience Web-enabling
HP3000 systems very quickly," said Richter. "MODCOMP impressed Rover
management from the beginning with their worldwide experience and
understanding of our business and system needs."
MODCOMP
provided administration, technical training, project management, application
development, installation, and documentation for this E-business project.
