Application Story
Web-Based
Solution Gives Sailing Enthusiasts 24/7 Access to Worldwide
Reservation System
Sunsail
(www.sunsail.co.uk),
the world's largest yachting and watersports beach club tour
operator, is the first company in its field to provide a self-service
reservation system over the Internet.
The
new system, which actually launched on Jan. 20, allows Sunsail's
public and corporate customers to research and select from a
vast range of sailing and watersports vacations simply by using
a Web browser. The new booking system allows potential and existing
customers to explore accommodation and boat layouts, check availability
and price, and book and pay for a vacation via a secure E-commerce
system.
Since
the new system's debut, hundreds of sailing enthusiasts have
already booked and paid for their vacations via Sunsail's Web
site.
"Sunsail
is now equipped to meet the growing customer demand for self-service
on the Internet," said Rob Crigler, vice president marketing,
MODCOMP E-commerce Division. "We are pleased to help Sunsail
offer a first-rate service to their customers around the world."
The
E-commerce solution is based upon MODCOMP's ViewMax® integration
software. MODCOMP also provided Web site design consultancy,
online brochure design, and the Web connection to Sunsail's
reservation system.
"This
new online system has been a key strategic objective of Sunsail,"
said Andy Howard, sales and marketing director, Sunsail. "We
have long realized the importance of our Web site as a sales
tool, but being able to book and pay for a holiday via the Internet
opens up a whole new range of possibilities both to us and our
clients.
"With
MODCOMP's expertise and commitment, Sunsail has established
a leadership position in selling sailing holidays direct to
both public and corporate clients over the Web."
Sunsail,
which has its U.S. office in Annapolis, MD, plans to launch
online reservation capabilities for its U.S. customers in the
summer of 2000.

Early in the eighties, the watersports beach club concept (sailing
and watersports holidays) was developed. This was closely followed
by the opening of the first UK Sailing Centre in the UK. In
late 1999, Sunsail joined the First Choice group of companies,
one of the three largest UK tour operators.
