Clarksburg
Facility of UCAR Carbon Company Utilizes MODCOMP's Industrial ScdaBase
for Linux
UCAR
International upgraded their industrial process control computer system
at their graphite specialties manufacturing plant in Clarksburg, West
Virginia. The new process control system is used to simultaneously monitor
and control temperature and pressure of gas fired baking furnaces used
in the manufacturing process.
Using
an Intel compatible industrial hardened computer system, the new UCAR
process control application is built with MODCOMP's new Linux version
of ScadaBase, a graphically enhanced, menu-driven, user-configurable
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) application software
package suited for real-time process control, factory automation, and
utility applications. ScadaBase supports batch and continuous process
control applications for industries such as energy, metals, oil and
gas, rubber and plastics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, pulp and paper,
and food and beverages.
"The
high performance and robustness of Linux makes it a natural fit for
open systems hardware and software architectures," stated Ron Cook,
Vice President of Technology Operations for MODCOMP, Inc. "The modular
software architecture of ScadaBase, coupled with commercially available
hardware running Linux, provides an unparalleled platform for system
expansion, scalability, and interoperability with enterprise business
systems", Cook added.
MODCOMP
provided project management, application development, installation,
and documentation for the project.
