MODCOMP
Delivers Linux-based SCADA Systems to Juice Plants in
Florida
New
ScadaBase® Deployment Updates Citrus Juice Quality Control
Technology for Florida Department of Agriculture
Fort Lauderdale, FL, March 25, 2003- MODCOMP®,
Inc. (www.modcomp.com), a leading architect of process
control and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)
solutions and a subsidiary of CSP Inc. (NASDAQ: CSPI)
announced today the delivery of 35 Linux-based SCADA systems
for quality control in orange and other citrus juice processing
plants across the state of Florida. Implemented for Florida
Department of Agriculture, Division of Fruits and Vegetables,
the systems will replace the Division's legacy hardware
and software.
MODCOMP
converted the Division of Fruits and Vegetables existing
SCO-UNIX-based system running an Informix® database to
an open architecture running the Linux operating system
with mySQL database. The upgrade project required MODCOMP
to translate and update nearly 30,000 lines of software
code involved in the complex sampling, testing, and analysis
of juice products. The resulting readings measure the
quality of the juice and determines the price paid the
grower for that batch of fruit.
Each
of the quality control systems has been customized to
work seamlessly within the unique processing facilities
and IT environment of the commercial juice processing
plants located throughout the state. All systems are centrally
managed from the Division's Winter Haven, Florida headquarters.
"MODCOMP
was excited about the opportunity to deploy our ScadaBase®
software solution in an open IT environment, and we are
confident that this transition will result in a dramatically
lower maintenance, operating, and ownership cost for the
customer," said Ron Cook, MODCOMP's vice president of
technology operations.
"This
was a difficult and complex project, and we were pleased
that MODCOMP was able to deliver a seamless solution,
on time and on budget stated the Departments Project Supervisor,
"We look forward to reaping the benefits of this new implementation
for years to come." The state expects to realize a return
on their investment by the end of this year with substantial
savings on licensing and maintenance fees as well as having
systems with higher performance and reliability.
