MODCOMP
Announces MODACS/X Open System Upgrade Solutions for
MODACS PIO Subsystems
July
29, 1997, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida - MODCOMP announces
the release of its open system upgrade solution for
its 1800 Series MODACS(TM) Process I/O Subsystems.
Using the VME-based Intel® Pentium® processor,
the REAL/IX PX(TM) operating system MODCOMP's
real-time implementation of the UNIX® System V
operating system and the MODACS/X(TM) Process
I/O Controller, provide an easy migration to industry
standard open systems technology.
The
heart of the upgrade is a four-slot VME chassis taking
the place of the existing MODACS controller card file,
and an integrated power subsystem that is plug compatible
with the existing MODACS power subsystem components.
The single-width 6U form factor MODACS/X controller
interfaces the MODACS PIO bus with the VME bus. This
controls up to six PIO cardfiles. A high performance
VME-based Pentium processor manages and provides communication
to and from the MODACS Subsystem in the network. The
processor, under the control of MODCOMP's REAL/IX
PX real-time operating system, also manages the subsystem's
operation. It can perform much of the front-end processing
such as scan table management, engineering conversion,
PID control, etc. As a fully self-reliant CPU, the
subsystem is also capable of independent operation
if it loses communication with the supervisory/server
CPU.
"Preserving
our customer's investment in their systems, while
providing an easy transition to open systems technologies,
is our prime responsibility," said John P. Clary,
MODCOMP president.
