MODCOMP Introduces the REAL/STAR II Series of Open Systems Industrial Computing Platforms

July 14, 1997, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida - MODCOMP announces the release of its REAL/STAR® II Series of real-time computer systems. Based on Intel® Pentium® and Pentium® Pro processors and MODCOMP's REAL/IX PX(TM) operating system, this new line of system and board-level products offer an unprecedented level of performance and robustness while embracing the latest available industry standards. Complete system configurations can meet the needs of users for factory floor environments, workstations, and high-end SMP server configurations.

For industrial environments, REAL/STAR II PICMG and VME based systems with single or dual Pentium processors are available. High reliability, high performance, ruggedness and ease of maintenance make these systems ideal for harsh operating environments. Twenty slot PCI/ISA passive backplane systems are available in 166, and 200 MHz configurations with up to 256 MB RAM.

REAL/STAR II VME based CPU's come with single or dual Pentium processors. As standalone board products, these processors can directly upgrades to existing 68K- and 88K-based REAL/STAR systems. Complete VME systems with 3, 6, 10, 12, and 20 VME slots come in varied configurations with peripheral mounting and redundant power options.

High-end servers, with up to four Pentium processors, featuring RAID storage and hot-swappable power supplies, complete the REAL/STAR II family.

The REAL/IX PX operating system provides compatibility with existing REAL/STAR systems and scalability with the REAL/STAR II family. Designed from the ground up as a fully preemptive real-time operating system, based on UNIX® System V, it adheres to a wide range of industry standards.

Prices for basic systems, including the REAL/IX PX operating system, start at $4,000. REAL/STAR upgrades start at $9,400. The new REAL/STAR II Series is available immediately.
