MODCOMP Announces ScadaBase SCADA Applications Software Package

Scalable Software Couples with Open Platforms Delivers Unparalleled Performance

April 12, 1999, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida -- MODCOMP Inc., a subsidiary of CSP Inc. (NASDAQ:CSPI), announces ScadaBase (TM), a new, graphically enhanced, menu-driven, and user-configurable Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications software package. ScadaBase supports batch and continuous process control applications for industries such as energy, metals, oil and gas, rubber and plastics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, pulp and paper, and food and beverages. ScadaBase is available for Intel® processor based platforms running the Linux(TM) operating system or the REAL/IX PX® operating system, MODCOMP's real-time implementation of UNIX® operating system.

"ScadaBase is based on a fully open hardware and software systems architecture," stated John Clary, President of MODCOMP, Inc. The modular software architecture, coupled with commercially available hardware, provides an unparalleled platform for system expansion, scalability, and interoperability with external business systems. ScadaBase has unlimited capacity and functionality. "Users are no longer locked into vendor specific proprietary systems that are difficult to use and expensive to maintain," added Michael Duvall, Manager of PCDA Marketing and Sales.

ScadaBase is ideally suited to match the needs for real-time process control, factory automation, and utility applications. Online SCADA systems in power (generation, transmission, and distribution), gas, and plant monitoring of water and wastewater treatment facilities provide real-time data for efficient management of all processes.

The ScadaBase Runtime, Alarm, Input/Output, Historian, and HMI Subsystems collectively display, resolve, and maintain process data using a high-performance Real-Time DataBase. User-friendly tools for system configuration and profiling, I/O simulation, and Real-Time DataBase (RTDB) validation support its Rapid Application Development Environment. An API allows application specific programs to exchange data with external software products such as spreadsheets, relational databases, and statistical quality control programs.

Robust networking support for TCP/IP and asynchronous communication protocols with industry-standard PLCs, RTUs, and application specific instrumentation and controls are supported. ScadaBase provides multi-level system-security strategies, comprehensive on-line documentation, and supports hot standby systems with auto-failover capability. The ScadaBase development system starts at under $5K.
