Overview
of benefits
MODCOMP's innovative 4-slot VMEbus design allows users to implement
the systems that include the high-performance MODACS product line in
non-CLASSIC I/O bus configurations.
Moving
MODACS into the open system environment permits the much sought after
addition of networking into the stand-alone RTU configuration. Low cost
compact disk devices enhance the subsystems suitability as a stand-alone
RTU.
This new
design moves the MODACS subsystem from the CLASSIC environment into
the open system environment and allows users to retain their investment
in hardware and field wiring while extending the life of the MODACS
subsystem.
Existing
installations can be easily upgraded, in the field, to the VME bus architecture.

Model 1812-4 integrated power system
Description
This is the first significant redesign of the MODACS III subsystem since
it was introduced and is intended to extend the life of the product
for many years by bringing it into the open system environment.
The power
system has been completely redesigned to incorporate one integrated
power supply satisfying the requirements for a bulk supply, logic supply
and an analog regulator as was used in the previous design. The AC distribution
panel has been redesigned and now meets the stringent CE mark specifications.
Coupled
with the MODAC/X controller and the Model 7100-1-64 SBC, MODCOMP has
created a very high-performance stand-alone RTU.
Model
1807-1 Basic File
Model 1807-1 is a metal card file with a multilayer printed circuit
board backplane. It provides the necessary mounting space and support
for 16 PIO interface cards and a 4-slot VMEbus chassis that supports
the MODACS/X interface controller and a SBC with peripheral controller
options.
Model
1812-4 Power System
The basic file is supplied with an integrated 530 watt transformer isolated
power supply system that provides bulk, logic and analog power as well
as power for the VMEbus chassis and disk drives.
MODACS/X
Controller
The MODACS/X controller is a single-wide, 6U VME format card that provides
the transition from VME to PIO bus.
The MODACS/X
controller can be installed directly in Model 1807-1's chassis to implement
a stand-alone RTU or can be installed in any VMEbus system to provide
remote single or redundant options. The controller supports auto failover.
It is available with either single-ended or differential drivers for
the PIO bus. The MODACS/X also supports daisy-chaining up to six Model
1807-1 chassis.
Model
1811-1 Fan Chassis
Model 1811-1 fan chassis mounts below, and provides cooling for, the
Model 1807-1 basic file.
Model
1813-1-(E1)
The redesigned AC distribution panel provides IEC 801-4 level surge
protection and meets stringent CE specifications.
Model
1816 Disk Tray
Model 1816 disk tray supports one 3.5 inch SCSI-3 or EIDE disk drive,
one SCSI or EIDE CD-ROM, and one 3.5 inch floppy disk required by Model
7100-1-64 SBC.
Upgrading
a Model 1805-1
Model 1807-2 allows a user to easily field upgrade an existing Model
1805-1 or 1805A-1 basic file by removing the MODACS III CPU bus option
cards and backplane and installing the Model 1807-2 4-slot VMEbus chassis.
Model 1805-1 power system must be upgraded to Model 1812-4. Existing
Model 1805A-1 basic files already have the Model 1812-4 power system
and only need the Model 1807-2 upgrade.
The upgrade
also requires an additional disk chassis that houses the floppy disk
and CD-ROM required for software installation and either an EIDE or
SCSI disk for the O/S and data files.
The subsystem
upgrade is completed by adding a Model 7100-1-64 SBC with desired option.
