Central processing units (CPUs) for the MODCOMP REAL/STAR II Family are available separately, allowing users to select the appropriate CPUs, memory configurations, chassis, and various interfaces. MODCOMP offers VMEbus single board computers and PCI bus computer systems. By offering the components individually, users have customized systems at off-the-shelf prices. Each user's system meets the exact needs of the user, ensuring the real-time performance requirements of the customer are met.

Description
MODCOMP's SBC, Model 7100-1-64, based upon the Intel Pentium 200 MHz CPU offers a migration path for existing REAL/STAR computer users.

This new SBC design integrates the latest processor and chipset technology into a high-performance VMEbus processor module.

At the core of this processor module is the Intel Pentium CPU. This new generation Pentium processor uses power reducing technology, allowing it to run at higher speeds and in higher temperature enviroments than their predecessors.

The Pentium CPU features dual-pipeline integer processing units with internal 16 KB cache, branch prediction, and a pipeline floating-point unit.

Model 7100-1-64 SBC includes 512 KB of Level 2 synchronous pipeline cache. This allows the processor to support the most demanding applications.

Additional performance enhancements are provided through implementation of a peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus. The PCI bus is the fastest local bus designed for AT systems, facilitating high speed communication between the CPU and the high performance video controller, enhanced IDE controller and optional Ethernet interface.

Model 7100-1-64 uses the PCI local bus to interface with the VMEbus. The VMEbus interface supports full DMA to and from the VMEbus, integral FIFOs for posted writes, block mode transfers, and read modify-write operations. The interface contains four master/slave images that can be programmed in a variety of modes to allow the VMEbus to be mapped into the PC/AT memory resources in protected-mode and real-mode programs.

The VMEbus interface supports A32/A24/A16 addressing modes and D64/D32/D15/D08 data transfer modes for both master and slave. The module also contains a full four-level VMEbus arbiter, VMEbus interrupter, and interrupt handler.

IDE hard drive and floppy drive capabilities are available by connecting a drive adapter module to the VMEbus P2 connector for disk drives mounted in the UVME chassis or in the external peripheral tray.
