Overview of benefits

MODCOMP's Model 7101 series Single Board Computers (SBCs) are robust, industrialized and are based upon the high-performance Intel Pentium processors. Performance is improved by up to 10% due to the Intel 430HX Triton II PCI chipset, high performance graphics and PCI disk. Data integrity is also improved because of the higher levels of integrating and support for Error Checking and Correction (ECC) memory using standard DRAM SIMMs. All I/O connectors have enhanced Electro Static Discharge (ESD) protection.

The Model 7101 series processors support speeds of 166 to 200 MHz with up to 256 MB of RAM and 512 KB of pipeline burst synchronous Level 2 (L2) cache. All standard AT peripheral controllers are integrated on the board, including EIDE, serial, parallel and PS/2® mouse ports.

PICMG Standard: Model 7101 series processors support today's leading ISA/PCI bus standard, the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG) bus. PICMG, a PCI special interest group, has established the PICMG specification for industrial computers offering multi-slot PCI/ISA passive backplane systems. The CPU board has the same outline dimensions as PCI/ISA option boards and plugs into the processor slot on the passive backplane containing the PCI/ISA option slots.

PICMG plug-in CPU boards offer a significantly improved mean time to repair (MTTR) of typically less than ten minutes and a high level of integration with industrially oriented features.

MODCOMP's Model 7101 series processors provide high performance, cost-effective solutions for real-time applications such as industrial control and monitoring; medical and scientific applications; and data, voice and image processing. They are ideal for environments where deterministic interrupt response, processing speed, high media bandwidth, and data throughput and integrity are critical.

The Model 7101 series members of the REAL/STAR® II Family, are fully supported by MODCOMP's REAL/IX PX operating system, the POSIX®-compliant, real-time implementation of the System V UNIX® operating system.

Description
MODCOMP's Industrial SBCs are available with either 166 or 200 MHz Pentium processors.

These full-featured ISA/PCI processors are single board computers which feature the Intel 430HX Triton II PCI chipset, Cirrus Logic video interface, DRAM, PCI Local Bus, cache, floppy controller, dual EIDE interface, PCI SCSI-II controller, two 16C550 serial ports, parallel port, speaker port, mouse port and keyboard port on a single ISA card. These single-slot, high-performance computer boards plug into PICMG ISAPCI bus and PICMG ISA passive backplanes and provide 100% compatibility for the system expansion slots.

The high performance PCI bus master EIDE interface supports up to four IDE type 4 disk drives. The interface supports transfer rates up to 22 MB/second.

Two serial ports (with baud generation to 115.2 KB) and a Centronics ECP/EPP port provides superior I/O throughput.

The DRAM interface is a 64-bit path that supports up to 256 MB of either fast page mode or Extended Data Out (EDO/Hyper Page Mode) memory. All 256 MB is cacheable. The processor board supports 60 ns or 70 ns industry standard 36-bit wide gold finger SIMM DRAM in four 72-pin SIMM sockets. RAM speed is selectable via advanced chipset setup.

The memory interface includes parity checking and supports ECC mode (via BIOS setting) for single-error correction, double-error detection and detection of all errors confined to a single nibble.

The processor board is fully compliant with the PCI Local Bus 2.1 Specification. The board and PCI interface have been optimized to allow the processor to sustain the highest possible bandwidth (greater than 100 MB/second) and low latency of the PCI Bus. It supports four PCI bus masters, pipelined snoop ahead feature and improved PCI to DRAM write-back policy. The PCI local bus interfaces to the on-board SCSI controller and to standard PCI option cards on the backplane.

The Cirrus Logic GD5446 video interface is a PCI local bus device which supports resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 non-interlaced and 16.8 million colors at resolutions up to 1024 x 768. The processor board provides 2 MB of on-board EDO display memory.

These processor boards also feature a built-in Board Temperature Monitor System (BTMS) which is connected to the parallel port and uses three bits to report the temperature within the system. Conditions reported are: inside limits, below low temperature, above high temperature or inside limits but did exceed the high and has not since gone under the low.

The watchdog timer resets the processor board if the timer is not refreshed by software periodically. The timer is typically used to restart the system in which an application becomes hung on an external event.

A hardware reset is issued when on-board voltage drops below 4.75 volts.
