Overview of benefits
MODCOMP's single and dual processor Single Board Computer (SBC) provides a low cost solution for migrating from MC68030, MC88000 and MC88110 based systems while retaining and enhancing the real-time performance and benefits of MODCOMP's REAL/IX® operating system.

Model 7102-X-XXX is fully supported by MODCOMP's REAL/IX PX operating system, the POSIX®-compliant, real-time implementation of the System V UNIX® operating system. The REAL/STAR II Family offers open systems computing with real-time performance.

CPU's for the MODCOMP REAL/STAR II Family are available as complete systems or separately. This allows users to specify the appropriate CPU's, memory configurations, chassis, and various interfaces. MODCOMP offers VMEbus systems and single board computers and also offers PCI bus computer systems. By offering the components individually, users have customized systems at off-the-shelf prices. Each configuration meets the exact needs of the user, ensuring the real-time performance requirements of the customer are met.

Description
Model 7102-X-XXX is based upon a single or dual Intel Pentium 200 MHz processor and offers a migration path for existing REAL/STAR computer users.

This new SBC design integrates the latest processor and chipset technology into a high-performance VMEbus processor module.

The new generation P54C Pentium processor uses power reducing technology, allowing it to run at higher speeds and in higher temperature environments than their predecessors.

The Pentium processor features dual-pipeline integer processing units with internal 16 KB cache, branch prediction, and a pipeline floating-point unit.

The SBC includes 512 KB of Level 2 synchronous pipeline cache. This allows the processor to support the most demanding applications.

Additional performance enhancements are provided through implementation of a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus. The PCI bus is the fastest local bus designed for AT systems, facilitating high speed communication between the CPU and the high performance video controller, enhanced IDE controller, SCSI and Ethernet interface.

The SVGA graphics controller with 64-bit GUI engine, 2 MB DRAM (standard) supports resolutions up to 1280x1024 at 65K colors, non-interlaced or 1024x768 at 16M colors, non-interlaced.

An integrated 10/100 Base T/T4 Ethernet connection is included in the SBC. The SBC also includes two integrated PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) slots which allow users to support application-specific I/O.

Model 7102-X-XXX uses the PCI local bus to interface with the VMEbus. The VMEbus interface supports full DMA to/from the VMEbus, integral FIFOs for posted writes, block mode transfers, and read modify-write operations.

The VMEbus interface supports A32/A24/A16 addressing modes and D64/D32/D15/D08 data transfer modes for both master and slave. The module also contains a full four-level VMEbus arbiter, VMEbus interrupter, and interrupt handler.

IDE hard drive and floppy drive capabilities are available through a drive adapter module attached to the VMEbus P2 connector for disk drives mounted in the UVME chassis or in the external peripheral tray. The Ultra SCSI-3 (40 MB/sec) interface supports up to 16 devices, including SCSI-2 F/W and F/N devices. Connection is available at the transition module.

Eliminating any obsolescence of PCI devices is an important factor which needs to be taken into account for product longevity. To increase the product life, the SBC is designed to be upgraded to the latest types of chip devices. This capability is completely transparent to the user.
