Overview
MODCOMP's Model 7500 mid-range server provides a very robust, low cost system level solution for users migrating from the Motorola® based REAL/STAR® family to the Intel based REAL/STAR II family of computers while retaining the real-time features and benefits of MODCOMP's REAL/IX® operating system.

MODCOMP's Model 7500 series servers are robust, high reliability, high capacity processing systems. The chassis is designed for easy access to all components, and the rack mounting option increases versatility.

MODCOMP's mid-range single and dual processor systems, Model 7500-X-128-X, are based upon the Intel Pentium Pro 200 MHz central processing unit (CPU) and feature the Intel 82440FX PCI 2.1 chipset.

The improved PCI chipset provides extremely high PCI bus performance and symmetric multi-processor support, offering a very high performance solution for customers wishing to add real-time system capability without having to use VMEbus systems.

Models 7500-X-XXX-X are fully supported by MODCOMP's REAL/IX PX(TM) operating system, the POSIX-compliant, real-time implementation of the System V UNIX® operating system. The REAL/STAR II Family offers open systems computing with real-time performance.

Description
These server systems combine extremely high reliability with tremendous capacity and processing performance. Servers are available with either single or hot-plug dual power supplies. The redundant (hot-plug) power supplies improve the server reliability and the online replacement minimizes downtime. These servers have eight controller slots: five PCI slots and three EISA slots providing support for a wide variety of standard PCI, EISA and ISA, 8 and 16-bit controller cards. All server systems are expandable to 1 GB of ECC RAM using eight 128 MB, 168-pin DIMM modules. The system also supports 32 MB 168-pin DIMM modules which limit the server to 256 MB of ECC EDO memory.

These systems are designed to reach extremely high performance levels using stable and reliable components. Using the advanced Intel 82440FX chipset, the motherboard is designed to support the symmetrical multi-processing (SMP) capability of REAL/IX PX. These systems have integrated support for two 16550 serial ports, one Centronics compatible ECP/EPP parallel port, one ATI Mach 64 PCI local bus video interface with 1 MB video memory, one PS/2® mouse port and one PS/2 keyboard port. With the seven open slots, the systems are ready for expanded networking responsibilities. The optional RAID controller provides high levels of disk reliability. This system coupled with MODCOMP's REAL/IX PX operating system provides superior real-time performance.

At the core of this system is the 200 MHz Intel Pentium Pro CPU. This generation of Pentium processor uses power reducing technology, allowing it to run at higher speeds and in higher temperature environments than their predecessors.

The Pentium CPU features dual-pipeline integer processing units with internal 16 KB cache, branch prediction, and a pipeline floating-point unit.

Model 7500 systems include 512 KB of Level 2 synchronous pipeline cache. This allows the processor to support most time critical, demanding applications.

Additional performance enhancements are provided through implementation of a peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus. The PCI bus is the fastest local bus designed for AT systems, facilitating high speed communication between the CPU and the high performance video controller, the Ultra/Fast/ Wide SCSI-3 controller and the optional Ethernet(TM) interface.
