Senior Security Network Engineer

The Senior Security Network Engineer will report to the Technical Services Manager.

Location:Sterling, VA.

Responsibilities:

•		Provides strategic direction and R & D for network engineering organization. Designs and implements new network architectures and infrastructures, new products and operational standards, performs specification, evaluation and deployment of new network equipment and technologies. Analyzes and plans growth and capacity of production networks. Assists lower level engineers as the highest point of technical escalation.
•		Perform both pre-sales and post-sales functions for enterprise customers.

Requirements:

•		Excellent planning, analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills
•		5+ years experience in network engineering/operations
•		In-depth knowledge and extensive hands-on experience with a full range of layer1-7 technologies and protocols (advanced layer2; redundancy protocols, advanced OSPF, BGP, and other routing protocols, advanced layer4-7 load-balancing, security, content management, and other technologies)
•		Extensive experience working in large-scale datacenter/LAN environment
•		At least 3 years Senior Network Engineering/Architecture experience in ISP environment
•		Advanced knowledge and extensive hands-on experience in Cisco routing and switching equipment and technologies (hardware/software, full/advanced configuration, advanced troubleshooting)
•		Advanced hands-on experience with networking equipment and technologies of other vendors (Juniper, Nortel, Cisco, Nokia, Checkpoint, and/or other)
•		Highly proficient in TCP/IP protocol suite, DNS and IP space management
•		Advanced knowledge of ticketing systems, monitoring and network management tools, and experience with design/development/operational deployment of such systems
•		Ability to program in Perl and automate routine network management tasks. Other programming languages and database administration skills a plus
•		Highly proficient in both Windows and UNIX operating systems, including advanced network configuration and protocol stack tuning. Advanced system administration skills and knowledge of other operating systems a plus
•		Hands-on experience with advanced testing tools and technologies (Smartbits, IXIA, and similar equipment/technologies)
•		Advanced certification (CCIE) a plus
•		Education: B.S. or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies, Engineering or other technical discipline

Duties:

•		Leads design, development and deployment of new technologies, services and underlying network infrastructure. Architects complex networks and multi-server systems. Works with other engineering/development teams to create robust scalable solutions
•		Provides strategic direction and R & D for entire network engineering organization. Researches and evaluates new network technolgoes and products, and defines recommendations and specifications for Global Hosting production implementation
•		As the highest point of escalation, handles Tier-III support requests for complex technical problems and high-severity outages from other network engineers and business departments. Performs highly complex network engineering support and advanced troubleshooting of most critical problems. Works with network equipment and software vendors to resolve defects and other technical issues.
•		Develops service specifications, internal standards, and policies and procedures to adapt to evolving technology and business needs. Participates in development of technical training and documentation for network operations and support staff
•		Performs network technology vendor evaluations. Researches and defines equipment specifications
•		Develops extensive test cases and participates in testing and certification of new network hardware and software products and solutions.
•		Performs physical and logical network design, advanced configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, switch-routers, load-balancers, content-delivery devices, firewall/security devices, and other types of networking equipment
•		Highly proficient in TCP/IP protocol suite, DNS and IP space management
•		Plans, coordinates and executes major/large-scale network operations, such as: critical maintenance, large-scale migrations, adjustments on the edge with backbone, global technology changes/additions, major hardware/software upgrades
