Portal Solution Links Mobile Phone Users for E-Business

WAP66™ Portal Server from MODCOMP Takes E-Business to Next Level; First and Only Solution to Combine Mobile Business Access to Legacy Data with Full Web Support

Feb. 14, 2000, Ft. Lauderdale, FL -- MODCOMP, Inc. (www.modcomp.com), a subsidiary of CSP Inc. (NASDAQ: CSPI) and a leading developer of E-commerce solutions, today announced the release of WAP66 Portal Server, the first server solution to make existing enterprise data available to mobile business (M-Business) users as well as the Internet and company intranets. WAP66 Portal Server is the only wireless access protocol (WAP) solution that allows mobile access to company information from data sources such as corporate mainframes and other computer systems as well as a Web browser.

Wireless access protocol is a transport mechanism that enables mobile devices to communicate with the Internet using a built-in Air-Interface. WAP66 creates a mobile E-business environment where users can access the Internet and company intranets any time from anywhere. This remote access and real-time transaction capability will benefit the growing number of sales and travelling executives.

"WAP66 Protocol Server is a vital link for the decentralized mobile workforce," said Rob Crigler, vice president marketing, MODCOMP E-commerce Division. "The open systems environment lets any organization dynamically customize this solution for their own computer environment to address the specific needs of 'on the road' executives."

According to Crigler, MODCOMP is extending its e-services strategy by using its ViewMax® integration software as the foundation to provide rapid deployment of mobile applications to access enterprise systems. By partnering with Internet service providers (ISP) as well as Internet presence providers (IPP) MODCOMP has identified a strategic sales channel to quickly reach a broad market.

"We have extended the ViewMax Transport Manager to support WML, one member of the XML family, that specifically is designed to work on mobile phones," said Crigler. "As a result, ViewMax/WAP has helped to break down the physical barriers to enterprise information."

Unlike other WAP solutions, WAP66 is not based on transforming HTML to WML coding, but instead generates WML pages at run-time.

MODCOMP, which developed WAP66 at its Germany subsidiary MODCOMP GmbH, plans to first market the solution in Europe before targeting other regions worldwide.

WAP66 Portal Server is user-friendly and easily configured software for portal solutions, based completely on the Java2 technology. WAP66 supports many different input streams and gathers information on demand from various systems, including ASCII, HTML, or XML files, as well as SQL queries or any other data that can be found in typical client/server environments. WAP66 also supports virtually all hardware platforms and operating systems, including Linux™, Solaris™, HP-UX®, AIX®, and Windows NT™.

WAP66 will be available from MODCOMP GmbH on Feb. 24, 2000 and will debut at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany (Feb. 24-Mar. 1). Standard pricing begins at $5,000.00 plus configuration services and user licensing.
